in newtown back in class for the first time since friday. however, sandy hook elementary remains closed indefinitely. students from that school will be returning to a neighboring school. four more funerals will take place today, three services for students the fourth for a teacher vicki soto. authorities have recovered a computer belonging to suspect adam lanza, but badly damaged information is unlikely to be recovered. tahman bradley is in connecticut and reports on how the town is trying to cope. >> reporter: the town is performing a grim task. 6-year-old noah liked animals, video games and mexican food. an onlooker collapsed inside his mother moved everyone to fathers. >> she told him, i love you. >> reporter: another funeral for jack pinto, also six. >> it was just sad. heavy hearted. >> reporter: jack love the new york giants his favorite player victor cruz wore his name on his cleats during sunday's game. >> to have my jersey be his favorite player they want to bury him with it, i told them i was honored. >> reporter: so much pain for all close to friday's shooting. governor mallo

throughout the state have converged this morning to mourn the dead. >> reporter: we are in -- sandy hook rights here, across from the volunteer fire department. you can see quite a bit of activity. police, firefighters, 24 hours ago it was a different scene, children were running here from their school just around the corner, sandy hook elementary to this fire station after being told by police this is where they can come to be safe because of what was happening in the school. it was a scene of chaos and horror, terrified children, hundreds of them coming here. this morning much calmer, no chaos. nothing horrible but still the memory of what happened yesterday. now, the police are here obviously, state police still here. the investigation continues at the school. just around the corner. you can see the police over there talking to people coming in. making sure that the media don't crossover the line. taking flowers as people bring them in. we got here at about 1:40 this morning after flying in from the bay area. we went straight to saint rose church where there was a human memorial vigil

town about 60 miles northeast of new york city. the death toll at the sandy hook elementary school stands at 26, including 20 children, some of them kindergarteners. and the principal of the school was killed as well. the gunman, 20-year-old adam lanza, armed with two handguns, opened fire in the kindergarten classroom where his mother was a teacher. her body was found later at her home. after the shootings, the police say adam lanza took his own life at the school. jim axelrod tells us how it all unfolded. jim? >> reporter: well, scott, it was just before -- just after 9:00 this morning at the sandy hook elementary school, which is right down the road here, a kindergarten through fourth grade school, so early this kids were still delivering their attendance list from their classrooms to the main office. as we say, a little after 9:00, the gunman apparently walked into the school and started shooting. police got 911 calls and kids could hear screaming coming over the intercom. the school was quickly placed on lockdown. teachers locking doors, pulling shades, keeping kids away from

's attention, but the same total loss of life at sandy hook happens more than twice every day all year long. this is personal for me, not just because the mall shooter was in my district, but i had a high school friend who was killed with a random freak drive-by shooting, my brother took his life with a handgun as a young man. i supported gun provisions at the state and federal level at every opportunity. it might be different now. not just because the horrific image of parade of funerals for children, i submit mayor bloomberg's advocacy for gun safety and mayors who brare the brunt of the gun violence. i welcome the president's leadership and will support any reform that he advances. but i would urge my colleagues to read the columns in the "sunday times" by my fellow oregon ann, nick, and another in "washington post." they demonstrate, we know what works. there are examples around the work. even in america with lax weak gun protections there are in fact some regulations in some places and they make a difference. let's treat gun violence like any public health crisis which i would say losi

at sandy hook elementary is bringing back grim memories of other school shootings. in 1999 two students opened fire at columbine high school in littleton colorado killing a dozen classmates and teachers before turning the gun on himself. another gunman killed himself at the virginia tech campus and killed 33. and earlier this year, a gunman shot and killed several people at oikos university. that man is now in jail. we have comments from some of the family members of the the oikos shooting. >>> and law enforcement sources say at least three guns were found at the shooting scene. two pistols were found inside the school. one was a glock. a three 234 caliber rifle was at a car parked at that school. that car is said to belong to the gunman's mother. the debate over guns flairs up every time there's a shooting like this. we'll take a look at california's own gun laws. >>> the school shooting once again raises questions about campus security, what can be done to better protect children, students and faculty from another deadly attack. >>> ktvu's alex sadvige has been looking at this with se
